Club Spotlight: Sydney South West Volleyball Club

Founded in 2021, Sydney South West Volleyball (SSWV) may be one of the newer clubs on the scene, but in just a few short years, it has made a big impact. Established by educator and coach Robert Tram to fill a clear gap in the region, the club was born from a simple but powerful mission: to make volleyball accessible and meaningful for all.

“What makes us special isn’t just how quickly we’ve grown, but the way we’ve done it — with heart, purpose, and a strong sense of community.”- Robert Tram, SSWV President

With a strong foundation built on values and service, SSWV has quickly become a home for athletes seeking not only development, but a place to belong. The club’s growth has been driven by a community-first approach — one where every player is more than just a number on a roster. They're a valued part of a shared journey.

Developing Athletes — and People

SSWV believes that true development goes far beyond technical training. While athletes are supported to grow their skills on the court — with tailored coaching, competitive opportunities, and structured progression — they’re also challenged to grow as individuals.

“We’re not just building athletes; we’re building people.” - Robert Tram, SSWV President

Whether it’s mentoring younger teammates, helping out at club events, or simply learning to lead by example, players are given space to explore responsibility, leadership, and accountability. The goal isn’t just to create better volleyball players — it’s to create more confident, capable, and connected young people.

Moments That Matter

For Sydney South West Volleyball, success isn’t always measured in medals. Their proudest moments often come quietly — like a parent thanking a coach for helping their child come out of their shell, or a young player discovering their voice on the court for the first time.

“Hard work isn’t meant to be easy. If it was, anyone could do it. Turning a page is one thing, but continuing the story and finishing it — that’s where the real growth happens.” Robert Tram, SSWV President

These are the milestones that define the club’s journey. They're the reason the long hours, weekend trainings, and late-night planning sessions are all worth it — because they’re helping shape lives, not just athletes.

Looking Ahead to 2025

With eyes on the 2025 SVL season, SSWV is ready to take the next step — developing their teams, expanding their reach, and continuing to prove that the south west has a powerful volleyball story to tell.

“We’re excited to watch our next wave of athletes step up… and create more moments that matter — not just for our players, but for the families, schools, and wider community that support them.” - Robert Tram, SSWV President

As they move forward, Sydney South West Volleyball remains grounded in its core values. The club is proud to represent its region and is determined to keep building a space where every athlete — no matter their background or experience — feels empowered to grow, compete, and thrive.

“At SSWV, it’s not just about volleyball — it’s about giving young people a place to belong, grow, and thrive.” - Robert Tram, SSWV President

And with that mission at the heart of everything they do, one thing is certain: this club is just getting started.
