Building Foundations of Performance Across NSW
Published Fri 20 Jan 2023
Over the weekend 20 beach volleyball coaches from across NSW came together for a full day of beach volleyball coach development at Sydney Academy or Sport in Narrabeen. Attendees gathered from the northern beaches, south coast, central coast, Hunter region and Canberra to share their passion for the game and learn the “Foundations of Performance” system to implement in their local environments.
“It was a high energy day where we were able to share best athlete development practices while also creating space for coaches to learn from each other and workshop philosophies and game systems. The beach community is growing and it was fantastic to see such strong representation from beach clubs. We are excited to provide further growth and networking opportunities for coaches and look forward to hosting an indoor focused day before the SVL season.” Martin Reader, Head of Pathways
The day consisted of two game and athlete development presentations led by VNSW Head of Pathways Martin Reader and two coach directed performance and strategy sessions with Phoenix Head Coach Chris Todd. The session ended with a Phoenix Beach Elite training session where coaches engaged with Chris courtside as he delivered the session and worked with the athletes.
Special guest Nam Pham the Volleyball Australia Sport Deliver and Growth General Manager had this to say - “The workshop was a great initiative from the team at Volleyball NSW and it was very encouraging to see the interest from the community of coaches in attendance. The knowledge sharing and networking opportunities provided was invaluable.”
The Foundation of Performance education seminar was open to all coaches interested in learning how to improve their understanding of the game and how to facilitate more impactful training sessions for their athletes. Stay tuned as VNSW will be release information in February regarding indoor coaching education opportunities.
