Club Spotlight: Sydney Acers Volleyball Club

After being named 2024 Club Champions for the third year in a row, Sydney ACERS Volleyball Club continues to prove that success isn’t just about trophies — it’s about community, connection, and creating a space where everyone feels like they belong.

From its humble beginnings, Sydney ACERS was never just about winning. It started with a simple love for the game — a group of mates renting courts at Rooty Hill on Sunday nights — and grew into one of NSW’s most respected and competitive volleyball clubs. But what truly sets ACERS apart isn’t just their performance on the court, it’s the heart and history behind their journey.

“What makes our club truly unique isn’t just what happens on the court, but the heart and history behind it.” Dennis Alejo ACERS President

Built entirely by volunteers, families, and passionate members, ACERS has grown organically over the years — from a single Men’s Division 2 team in 2018 to a thriving club competing at the Premier Division level for both men and women. Every milestone has been achieved through patience, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to fostering community.

A Club Built on Culture

At the core of ACERS’ culture is a deep respect for development and inclusivity. Whether you're a beginner or a high-performance athlete, you’re welcomed with open arms. The club prides itself on creating a space where people feel encouraged, challenged, and supported — not just as players, but as individuals.

“Winning is great, but seeing players grow, form lifelong friendships, and come back as mentors — that’s what makes us most proud.” Dennis Alejo ACERS President

That inclusive spirit extends beyond the court. Former players return to coach juniors, parents cheer from the sidelines, and members step up to run programs and mentor younger athletes. The club’s success is truly a shared effort.

Growing the Game — On and Off the Court

ACERS takes player development seriously — offering structured training programs for all skill levels, run by experienced coaches, many of whom started as players within the club. But what stands out is their commitment to growth off the court as well.

Leadership opportunities, coaching and refereeing pathways, and mentoring initiatives are all part of the club’s approach to holistic development. Young athletes are empowered to lead warm-ups, assist with junior sessions, and grow into leadership roles — not because they have to, but because they want to.

“That sense of ownership and pride is what keeps our community strong and helps us grow the next generation of great people, not just great players.” - Dennis Alejo ACERS President

Looking Ahead to 2025

With the 2025 SVL season on the horizon, ACERS is brimming with excitement. After years of steady growth and consistent community support, the club is ready to take on new challenges — both on the state and national stage.

There’s a buzz around training, with returning players and new faces all bringing energy and hunger for the season ahead. The club looks forward not only to testing their teams in competition but also to watching more of their athletes take big steps — whether that’s representing Australia, earning scholarships, or becoming leaders in the club community.

“Beyond the wins and big games, it’s the little moments we’re most excited for — the shared laughs at training, the team dinners, the last-point comebacks, and the friendships that grow along the way.”- Dennis Alejo ACERS President

As Sydney ACERS continues to evolve, one thing remains clear — this is a club built on heart, driven by community, and fuelled by a genuine love for the game. Here's to another season of growth, connection, and unforgettable memories in 2025.
