Congrats to the NSW Phoenix Teams at Australian Junior Volleyball Championships

Published Thu 14 Jul 2022

It was an incredible 3 days of games at Netball Central for our five NSW Phoenix Teams playing in the Australian Junior Volleyball Championships 2022 (AJVC).

The dedication and hard work of our Phoenix Pathway Team, the Players and Officials coming together at a national event to showcase our Phoenix Program was great to see. Thanks to Valour, the Phoenix team looked on fire in their new uniform, representing Volleyball NSW and the Phoenix Program.

NSW Phoenix Head Coach, Chris Todd, reflects on how the teams played

This was the first opportunity for the Phoenix program to get on the indoor court and it was excellent to see some great performances and a lot of learning across the competition. All of the Phoenix teams brought an aggressive style of play that, while causing a few errors, gave them opportunities in big matches and took boys teams to the 5th set of the grand finals.

Having only recently taken on the Phoenix Head Coach role I was really pleased to see all the teams trying to play a common style of volleyball and getting some great results. The teams are already performing at a high level and hopefully we will be able to make that last step to get on top of the podium in the near future.

First introduced in 2021, Junior Indoor Phoenix is the performance program that targets the highest performing athletes in NSW. It’s a team-based program offered on an annual basis in preparation for the AJVC, selected athletes and coaches go through a 3-phase process – click here to find out more.
