The Board of Volleyball NSW announces a significant leadership transition. After six remarkable years at the helm, Baz Wedmaier is stepping down as Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Baz's leadership has been pivotal during a period of substantial growth and transformation for the organisation, which included navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, achieving a threefold increase in membership, and spearheading the development of key venues like the Blacktown City Beach.

Baz's outstanding leadership was recognised when he was named the 2022 NSW Sports Administrator of the Year, a testament to his profound impact on the sport and community. Baz’s legacy endures through the talented team he cultivated, equipped to advance Volleyball NSW’s strategic initiatives. His commitment to the sport and its people will be felt long after his departure.

Stepping into the role of Acting CEO is Rebecca (Bec) Walter, previously the Chief Operating Officer and a former elite player with the Volleyroos. With 14 years of international experience and deep ties in the volleyball community, Bec is well-prepared to guide our organisation in the coming months.

Her previous role as National Participation Manager and her extensive background in strategic management and governance ensure that she is well-equipped to lead Volleyball NSW during this transitional period. Bec's leadership approach is characterised by a commitment to transparency, innovation, and community engagement, aligning closely with the strategic direction of Volleyball in NSW.

The Board is confident that Bec’s leadership will continue the legacy of growth and innovation established by Baz, further enhance engagement with our community and strengthen our connections across all levels of the sport. Bec is committed to advancing sports management practices and ensuring that all stakeholders—players, fans, and community members—have positive and impactful experiences.

While Baz will be dearly missed in his role as CEO, his ongoing passion for volleyball ensures that his presence will still be felt in the community. The Board encourages all members of the volleyball family to join us in expressing our gratitude for Baz’s significant contributions and to extend a warm welcome to Bec as she assumes her new responsibilities.
