NSW Athletes Shine In Professional Leagues!

Volleyball NSW is incredibly proud of our athletes who have taken the leap to pursue volleyball careers overseas. While volleyball may not be one of the biggest sports in Australia, globally, it is one of the most played and passionately followed sports in the world.

European professional volleyball leagues have long been a beacon for ambitious athletes—and now, more than ever, NSW players are stepping onto that global stage. With elite training environments, high-level competition, and the opportunity to grow as professional athletes, Europe offers an exciting pathway for those turning passion into a profession.

In recent years, an increasing number of NSW athletes have packed their bags and moved to play in leagues across Europe and Asia. European seasons generally run from September through to late April or early May, with athletes training full-time and competing weekly in their leagues as well as in continental tournaments like the European Champions League.

This season, Volleyball NSW had two athletes competing in Germany’s top division, the Bundesliga: Nehemiah Mote with Berlin Recycling Volleys and Arash Dosanjh with Helios Grizzlys Giesen. The two recently faced off in a best-of-five semi-final series, where Nehemiah’s team came out on top, winning 3–0 and advancing to the finals for the fourth consecutive year. Nehemiah was also named MVP in the third match of the series and earlier this season helped Berlin Recycling Volleys capture the German Cup. His team also made an impressive run in the European Champions League, finishing 9th overall.

Arash and his team earned the bronze medal—an incredible achievement! It was fantastic to see our NSW boys sharing the court, even if they were on opposite sides of the net. Congratulations to both Nehemiah and Arash! We wish Nehemiah and Berlin Recycling Volleys the best of luck in the finals. You can catch streams and highlights on the Dyn Volleyball YouTube channel or follow his team on social media at @brolleys.

Ethan Garrett was another standout NSW athlete flying the flag in Europe. After a strong showing with NSW Phoenix in the Australian Volleyball Super League, Ethan signed with Athlos Orestiadas in the Greek A1 League. His team finished in 10th place, narrowly missing out on the quarterfinals. Congratulations to Ethan on a great season abroad!

On the women’s side, NSW had three amazing athletes playing in Germany, Sweden, and Azerbaijan.

Mikaela Stevens, also from NSW Phoenix, competed in Germany’s Bundesliga 2 South with ProWin Volley TV Holz. She finished the season with an impressive four MVP awards, and her team placed 8th overall. Well done, Mikaela!

Harriet Gilson continued her European career with Lund Volleyball Club in Sweden, now in her fourth season. Harriet has consistently made her mark in the Swedish Elite Series, and this year is on track for her best finish yet—one game away from taking home the bronze medal. Congratulations on another fantastic season, Harriet!

Sylvia Musel made the jump from ProVolley Academy to the Azerbaijan Super League, playing with Milli Aviasiya Akademiyasi VK. Sylvia and her team are in the final stages of the season, and we wish her the best of luck for the remainder of her campaign.

Congratulations once again to all our NSW athletes for their outstanding efforts and achievements throughout their international seasons. We’re incredibly proud and excited to continue following your journeys—on and off the court!
