Paralympics Australia Multi-Sport Event
Published Thu 01 Sep 2022
Volleyball NSW were extremely proud to participate in the Paralympics Australia Multi-Sports Day on Saturday 27th August at the Wollongong University Sports Complex. We offered Sitting Volleyball, led by coaches from the Illawarra Volleyball Club and Weiping Tu, a highly experienced coach in the disability and adaptive sports space. It was an enjoyable and educational multi-sport day filled with fun and laughter. Participants had the opportunity to experience a sport they had never played before and found enjoyment and love for the sport while taking part in the activities.
One of the participants mums said, “I haven’t seen my daughter laugh and engage like that in such a long time”.
We would like to express our gratitude to Illawarra Volleyball Club for getting involved, Weiping Tu for volunteering his time to share his expertise, and Paralympics Australia for hosting an amazing event. It was extremely well organised and provided us with the opportunity to showcase sitting volleyball. We were also delighted to have Alexandria Smith as our ambassador, a valuable member of the Phoenix team and the local community, who empowers others to be themselves while playing volleyball.
We had a great team on the day delivering sitting volleyball, and the participants had a great time learning new skills and playing mini games.
There will be more sitting volleyball programs coming to a space near you soon! If your club is interested in hosting a ‘come and try’ sitting volleyball session – reach out and find out how Volleyball NSW can support.
