Season Summary – Phoenix Podcast Special Episode

It has been over 2 years since VNSW was last able to deliver on the Youth and Junior indoor Pathways Programs, both of which have significantly evolved to cater for our growing community numbers. As such, the VNSW Pathways team will also be putting together a special episode of the Phoenix Podcast to summarise all the information you need to know for new and existing ATHLETES, PARENTS and COACHES. This podcast episode will be published on our VNSW Facebook page (during the week of 28 March) and linked here when available.

Youth Indoor Phoenix (U14-U18 State Team)

Please visit the PATHWAYS > YOUTH INDOOR PHOENIX page of our website for full information about this program.

VNSW will again be looking to select teams in each age group (U14, U15, U16, U17 & U18) and each gender (Male/Female) to represent NSW at the Australian Youth Volleyball Championships (AYVC).

We are excited to introduce a 3 Phase process to athlete selections this season. This is to ensure that as many athletes as possible can have an opportunity to trial and gain development through the Phoenix program.

The 3 Phases last approximately 2 months each and include:

1)  Nomination (April – May):

  • All new and existing athletes are encouraged to participate in the Nomination Phase.
  • NEW open Talent ID sessions for new and existing athletes throughout the April School Holidays at Netball Central, Sydney.
  • RASi Academy programs will also be commencing, with athletes preparing for nomination to Youth Phoenix trials.
  • Trials U16-U18 Only *: VNSW will host invitation only selection trials on Saturday 21st May at Netball Central, Sydney. All athletes who wish to trial must complete the online application form, from which only the top 60 male and female athletes in each age group will be invited.

2)  Squad (June – July):

  • The Squad Phase consists of 2x development camps and 1x tournament day, held on a fortnightly basis on Saturdays at Netball Central, Sydney.
  • U16-U18: The top 30 male and female athletes in each age group will be selected to continue from the Nomination Phase into the Squad Phase.
  • U14-U15: This Phase is open to all athletes to apply. Any athletes who wish to participate must complete the online application form. Successful athletes will be notified on their inclusion, based on demand and capacity.

3)  Team (August – September):

  • The Team Phase consists of 3x development camps held on a fortnightly basis on Saturdays at Netball Central, Sydney.
  • ALL AGES (U14-U18): The top 10 male and female athletes (plus reserves) in each age group will be selected after the Squad tournament day to continue into the Team Phase.
  • Athletes will then travel to the AYVC, from 24-29 September in Bendigo, VIC.

* Please note the U14-U15 age groups are undertaking a slightly different pathway to the U16-U18 age groups. They will not be required to participate in any selection trials during the Nomination Phase. Instead U14-U15 athletes will have an open application to join the Squad Phase activities which will include assessment for further selection into the Team Phase.

Selected Phoenix ATHLETES are also encouraged to engage with any other opportunities reasonably available to them to aid their in-season development (e.g. RASi Program, Clubs, Junior/Senior SVL, Schools). VNSW has taken care to attempt to avoid clashes in dates with Phoenix programming where possible.

Full program KEY DATES are available now. Nomination/Application forms for ATHLETES and COACHES are coming soon and will be announced when available. Detailed information packages (including selection process, costs, inclusions, uniforms, logistics, etc.) will be published on the PATHWAYS > YOUTH INDOOR PHOENIX section of our website when available.
