Round 6 Phoenix Match Results!

Published Tue 08 Oct 2024

Final Match of the 2024 Australian Volleyball Super League Season!

After a tightly contested 2024 season and narrowly missing out on a finals bid, NSW Phoenix went into round 6 against the Melbourne Vipers looking to prove they can compete with the best in Australia.

Phoenix men were up first against the Viper men, who have been a force this season after winning bronze in the 2023 AVSL edition. Phoenix once again showed steady improvements throughout the season and said that they can compete against the best. It was fantastic to see NSW setter Jake Lewkowicz back in action after having elbow surgery after the first round! The addition of his setting allowed Phoenix's attack to challenge the Vipers block and defence and show that they are a force within this competition. Despite ultimately going down 1:4 to the Vipers, Phoenix showed great resilience, and we look forward to seeing this young team develop in the coming years!

Match Results: Phoenix def by Melbourne Vipers 1:4 (17:18,14:18,18:17,17:18, 13:18)

Next up was our Phoenix ladies who brought the Phoenix fight to the Viper pit for their last match of the season. Once again, Phoenix proved that despite their youth they can compete against some of the best in Australia. NSW showed great attacking and blocking, especially through the middle, with young talents in Anni Tang and Chelsea Cocks, proving they have a bright future ahead of them. Phoenix fought until the end but ultimately went down the Viper Women 1:4 in another tightly contested match!

VNSW would like to thank our sponsors for their support in this year's AVSL season - Mahindra, Valour, Mikasa, Scape and Volleyball NSW.

We would also like to take the time to thank all those who volunteered their time to assist with our home rounds, from event helpers, ball kids, VNSW staff, and match officials, who, without their assistance, our home rounds would not be the same! As well as thank our NSW and wider volleyball community for their ongoing support of our Phoenix program, we look forward to continuing to build the profile of volleyball in our great state!
