Stefie Fejes, representing Australia at Volleyball World Champs 2022

Published Mon 12 Sep 2022

Izmir, Turkey, is getting ready to host beach volleyball players from all over the world this week at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships, 14-18 September 2022.

Its set to be one epic volleyball event, and our very own NSW athlete, Stefie Fejes, will be representing Australia in the U19s. Stefie and her partner are the only team from Australia who have gained a spot for the main draw.

Stefie studies hard and plays harder. At only 17 (in her final year of high school), she is ranked 1st in the Australian Women’s beach volleyball rankings and is already taking the world volleyball scene by storm, she loves to travel and play. Her goal is to represent Australia in the Olympics, and we are fully behind this!

Hear from Stefie, about her Beach Volleyball World Championships Journey…

I have been working and saving money, the trip itself cost $6000 which I'm required to pay fully. In preparation for the competition, I am required to travel to the Australian Institute of Sport and Queensland Academy of Sport where the senior women's national program is based, which will add extra cost to the trip. Although it is only a 4-day competition, due to high airfares and preparation training, the expenses for my trip are big.

I have had the privileged to represent my country at both a senior and junior level. This trip will help me towards my goal of representing Australia at the Olympics and give me an opportunity to verse the other athletes in my age from all over the world.

Beach volleyball is a self-funded sport so any support is amazing!

NSW Olympic Advisory Committee

Stefie also received a NSW Junior Athlete Grant from the NSW Olympic Advisory Committee, to the value of $1,250, which aims to support emerging athletes to achieve their sporting goals and ambitions.

The NSWOAC said there were some truly phenomenal applications and only 12 grants were approved this year each to go towards training and support for NSW’s most talented upcoming athletes.

A huge congratulations to Stefie, for her hard work and dedication to the sport we love. We can’t wait to watch her in action on the world stage this week and look forward to following her sporting career as it goes from strength to strength.
