2023 Indoor Phoenix Announcement
Published Thu 02 Mar 2023
With the beach season nearing its end this article is meant to inform key dates and top-level program information regarding our indoor state team programs. Further information will be provided as we secure operational details.
Phoenix Membership
Phoenix has come a long way over the last two years and 2023 is going to be a monumental year. In anticipation of this VNSW will be implementing a new management system that will streamline all registrations, improve communications and offer new services to those who are a part of an annual Phoenix Membership.
The Volleyball community is thriving, however, playing more doesn’t directly equate to being better at volleyball. Over the last two seasons we have seen an enormous amount of pain issues and chronic injuries which could easily be managed with physical screening and sport specific injury prevention protocols. Secondly, with the rise of skill level and competitiveness comes a rise in a necessity to be physically robust enough to perform for an entire season. Through this membership we will be providing tiered physical preparation programs for athletes aspiring through our pathway.
Leading the physical culture of Volleyball in NSW is an important step toward reducing the risk of pain and injury while supporting athletes in getting more healthy playing time across a season and a lifetime. Any athlete or coach wishing to participate in Phoenix Pathway (TID, squad, team, championships) will require a phoenix membership. Further information will be provided soon regarding membership benefits, programs and services.

These sessions have three components 1) Physical Testing 2) Skill Testing 3) Technical Development which will provide athletes with a better understanding of what they need to do to improve their game while also providing VNSW with important information that will support Phoenix program selection. Due to the high volume of youth expected to trial for Youth Phoenix, VNSW will offer direct trial invitations to exceptional athletes.

Senior Phoenix
After a very exciting Sr.Phoenix season last year the National Senior league will be undergoing some changes in timing, formatting and structure at a National level. In anticipation of those changes the Senior Phoenix will look to begin training May through July leading into an earlier National league schedule for August and September. Senior Phoenix will support athletes with a single weekly high performance training environment during the SVL season and ramp up its efforts immediately following the conclusion of SVL Prem and Reserve finals. Athletes intending on playing both SVL and Senior Phoenix should be engaging an in-season strength program which will be available through the Phoenix Membership.

Off the back of the first Junior Phoenix program last year, this season will be new and improved. This program is looking to have both a development and performance team for both U19 and U23 in both genders. This means 4 possible teams which will be trialled for based off merit within each age group. Youth athletes may apply, however, trials will be strongly weighted on performance. The program will feature Saturday team camps with multiple feature matches leading into the Australian Junior Volleyball Championships (AJVC) in Sydney July 6-9th.
